Yesterday

Yesterday

I learned tiny rolls of solder
melt on ends of silver rings

triangles of steel sail
low-melting alloys sealing

metals into watercraft
floating across

my mother’s ring finger
years before she soared

across Saginaw Bay
on a thirteen-foot Ghost

grey sheets dipping
into waves like smelt.
